The National Association of Governance Advisory Services (NAGAS) is an organisation representing providers of services to school and academy boards, alongside organisations and individuals providing support, advice, guidance and training for governing boards, clerks and governance professionals. The NAGAS board is made up of elected representatives from each of the member regions and is funded through member subscription.
NAGAS exists to give a national voice and support to its members, to promote high-quality governance in schools and academies. Established in 1992, initially as a Local Authority (LA) national governor services network, NAGAS has grown and developed, representing regional networks of governor service providers, with membership drawn from local authority coordinators of governor services and their traded partners, Catholic and Anglican Diocese, a range of commercial organisations, multi academy trusts, stand-alone trusts and independent providers of governance support services.
As regional groups, the membership exists to support and enable the delivery of high quality services to governors, trustees, clerks and governance professionals, promoting and supporting effective governance in schools. The NAGAS board also provides a mechanism for professionals working in services supporting governance in schools and settings to access a range of materials, resources, information and development opportunities. It is the committee’s responsibility to influence and initiate national policy by identifying common themes emerging from the regions and then to communicate the outcomes to support the continuous improvement of governance support services nationally.
